Shweta Rajesh is a fashion and textile designer born in America and raised in Chennai, India. Deeply inspired by Indian craft and textiles, her work centers on textile making as a process, an observed rhythm between the maker and the made, and a set of sounds.

Often referencing the kolam (a rice flour floor drawing in Tamil culture), she uses grids and structured formats as a system to print and manipulate textiles with natural dyes. Garments and patternmaking are used like a canvas to create textile compositions on the body, with an attention to how structure and sizing interact with different bodies.

Natural dyes are an important part of Shweta’s practice, with the belief that there is much to learn from traditional knowledge and forms of art as well as traditional materials.

After graduation, she seeks to work with and learn from sustainability-centered designers and artists while continuing her textile research with the intention of developing her own line.
